Nekopara is a Japanese adult visual novel game developed by NEKO Works and published by Sekai Project. Supported in platforms such as Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch and Plays Station 4, Nekopara consists of the player reading the game’s story. Nekopara does not offer the players any choice, which can affect the outcome. There is only one end. Released on December 30, 2014, the series is set in a human world where catgirls live alongside, called Nekos, who can be kept as pets. The game uses E-mote, which allows the in-game characters to be animated and not just stationary spirits, however, the only voice we don’t hear is of Kashou, the protagonist. The newest release has added features where you can “pet” the Nekos. The reaction of the Nekos will differ depending on where the player pets them. One of the Nekos, Maple sings the first four notes of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 when you pet her upper sensitive parts.
Nekopara is a cat’s paradise. The storyline revolves around the Minazuki household and their catgirls. When Kashou Minazuki leaves his home to open up his cake shop, La Soleil, he finds out that two of his household catgirls, Chocola and Vanilla, have tagged along hidden in a cardboard box. After they eventually convince Kashou Minazuki to let them stay, the three of them run the shop together. Throughout the first volume, they are visited by Kashou Minazuki’s sister Shingure Minazuki and her four catgirls often. The catgirls become waitresses and La Soleil becomes successful with the booming business, it gets a nickname of “a Cats Paradise” because of the beautiful catgirls that serve there. The story then focuses on the two sister catgirls, Azuki and Coconut, who lately have not been getting along as well as they used to. As the story folds out, Kashou learns of the trouble and concerns between the two sisters and eventually helps them overcome it and brings them back together as a family. In the third volume of the series, the story primarily focuses on the dreams of a catgirl named Maple and her closest catgirl friend Cinnamon, who wants to help make Maples dream come true. It further goes on to show how Kashou and his catgirls help Maples dream come true.

The protagonist of the Nekopara series, Kashou has brown hair with bangs on the sides of his face and hazel eyes. Being born in a family line of traditional Japanese chefs, Kashou had a strained relationship with his parents because of his love for western food and culture. He is seen as an independent person because he moves out to open up his bakery and buys his supply by himself. He is the owner of the cake shop, La Soleil. He is also shown as a somewhat dense person. He does not understand whatever is being said unless put in laymen terms, which embarrasses the catgirls. Kashou has a very close relationship with his sister Shingure and the two family nekos, Chocola and Vanilla. Kashou is barely seen throughout the novel game series and due to the strained parental relationship, his parents are rarely mentioned. He plays the major part in Nekopara Volume 1, which is an introduction and the beginning of the story as he moves out and sets up his bakery with the help of Chocola and Vanilla. In Volume 0 he is shown much less where he leaves the house very early in the morning and returns around mid-afternoon or much later. In Volume 2 Kashou is shown as the sincere one, who listens to his catgirls problems. In this volume, he helps solve the conflict between Coconut and Azuki. As we move on to Volume 3, Kashou is yet again seen helping another household catgirl, Maple, achieve and fulfill her dream.
Nekopara Shingure Minazuki
The younger sister of Kashou, Shingure has shoulder length violet hair and eyes. She is usually seen clad in kimono of floral pattern and dark purple strapped sandals. Shingure is seen as an elegant and intelligent young girl who takes up an almost maternal instinct towards her catgirls. Despite her elegant demeanor, she is in love with her brother and occasionally declares her love for him. She is well composed and calm, yet the catgirls are terrified of her because she smiles despite being mad. Due to her maternal instinct, she has figured out, at a young age, how to deal with their tantrums and shenanigans. Throughout the series, it becomes evident of Shingure’s incestuous love for her brother, especially when she implies that he is not as close to her as he was in the past.
The oldest of the Minazuki catgirls, and of Munchkin Cat breed, Azuki is 3 years old. She is lively and energetic, however, most of her energy is directed towards insulting her fellow catgirls, and she is seen often getting in fights with them. Her personality is portrayed as a tomboy, where she would unapologetically gulp down food, which is her weakness and takes charge of her sisters. Azuki is of pale complexion with brown hair and brown eyes. She wears white buttoned up sleeveless shirts, with blue collar and the red ascot. Her skirt is blue and pleated, and she wears black Mary Jane shoes with white ankle socks. The bell around her neck is gold colored.

The twin sister of Neko Vanilla, and a mixed breed, both of them together make the youngest catgirls of the Minazuki family. She has amber eyes and long brunette hair. She wears the red and white dress with stockings and pink shoes. She is nine months old, often cheerful, and energetic. Kashou describes her as a happy go lucky person. She has the ability to bounce back to being cheerful soon after anything upsets her, but occasionally, she is seem getting emotional about things that she holds dear. She has a more curious and childlike outlook on things which sets her apart from other catgirls, probably because she is the youngest of them all. Kashou and Shingure found both Chocola and Vanilla on the streets, abandoned at the side of the road. When they were brought into the Minazuki household, they were both timid and afraid as they were surrounded by unfamiliar faces. They would not eat or drink which led to the development of crippling illness. When they were finally taken to the hospital, Kashou never left their side, which developed their trust towards Kashou. Ever since then, Chocola fell in love with Kashou. After she takes her catgirl exams, she receives a bell as well.

Twin sister of Chocola, and a mixed breed, Vanilla is nine months and is mostly quiet and shy. She rarely expresses her emotions, as opposed to her sisters’ energetic and cheerful personality. Cinnamon is shy and very cheerful externally, however, her mind is dirty to the extent where she can turn any mundane conversation into an innuendo. She plays a major role in Nekopara volume 2 where she breaks out a fight between Azuki and Maple. Her second most major role is in volume 3 where she helps Maple accomplish her dream, because of her close relationship with Maple.

An American Curl breed of age 2, Maple is pale in complexion with blonde long, wavy hair and bright green eyes. She wears a brown-checkered dress, with a dark brown blazer, black heeled boots, and brown knee socks. She wears a headband with white ribbon on it. Maple is known for her refined sense of etiquette and how she conducts herself. Maple is considered to be the most independent out of all the catgirls, in the sense where she is the only one whose clothes aren’t picked out by Shingure. Maple is compared to a typical American Teenage girl, except for her elegance and refined sense of self. She is rude to the customer and is always loud and vocal of her opinions even if they are harsh and when no one asks for it. It also seems to appear that Maple is the only one who knows how to use technology as she is seen teaching Chocola about emoticons in Nekopara Volume 1. Maple plays the major role in Nekopara Volume 3 where she remembers a dream she had a while back. She believes that she has to fulfill that dream and seeks out to achieve it. Kashou and the Minazuki catgirls help her and support her.
Also known as, the food stands cat, owned by an unnamed woman, Milk plays a minor role in the series. Milk is six months old and is pale in complexion. She has short, grayish blue hair, and big, round vibrant green eyes. She is seen wearing a uniform of a brown apron with yellow collar and a white shirt or t-shirt underneath the apron. Milk is a cheerful and lively who approaches everyone without hesitation to offer food and drink. She is polite and kind and often addresses everyone with respect. According to her owner, Milk was a stray just like Chocola and Vanilla. She wandered around and wound up at the food stand, alone and hungry. The food stand owner decided to take her up and since then she has treated Milk like her daughter.
